.Ten Ways to Find Peace in God

How can I find peace in tribulations? That was the question I asked a few years ago when everything around me was crumbling. I failed a major entrance exam, my parents couldn't cater for my siblings, and my dad's salary could settle a few of the bills. Though I was a Christian, I hardly read my Bible, pray fervently, or engage in any charity programs to attract God's blessings. Sincerely, everything wasn't going smoothly for me and my family. To worsen the situation, my mates were making giant strides in their chosen careers. Some got expensive cars and properties for their parents, while others are living the best of their lives. Social media didn't help issues as I kept seeing numerous celebration posts on my timeline. I couldn't help but wonder why my life was moving in such a disastrous direction. I lost my peace, became restless, and many thoughts kept running through my mind. Thankfully, I didn't think of suicide. After much thought and consideration, I reached out to my pastor (Ben Musa) and narrated my plight. I disclosed how things were tough for me and how I'd lost my peace amid tribulations. He told me to seek God's peace and be at peace with God and man. How can I find peace in Christ when everything around me doesn't encourage such an atmosphere? Luckily, he revealed ten effective ways to achieve my goal. According to him, reading spirit-filled books is one of the ways to develop a peaceful mind. What happened after the heartfelt session with my pastor? I applied the tips, bought well-sold Christian books, and my story changed after five months. So, what are the 12 ways to find peace in God? 1.Give Your Life to Christ This is the first step to enjoying God's everlasting peace and uncompromising calmness, even in the middle of the storm. Christ has come to give us peace not as the world - or worldly materials - give (John 14:27) Hence, you must surrender your life to Christ, accept and declare him as your Lord and Savior, and believe in your heart. If you haven't given your life to Christ yet, kindly say the prayer below: “Dear Lord Jesus, I'm sorry for living a life of sin. Forgive me for my sins. I believe you died for me and rose on the third day to save me. I accept you as my Lord and personal savior. Come into my life and help me obey your commands. Thank you, Lord Jesus.” Now that you've said that prayer, you are on the right path to developing peace of mind. Let's move to the next tip. 2. Build a Strong Relationship With God Building a strong relationship with God is another way to experience God's peace, regardless of everything around you. How can you develop a strong relationship with God? Read the Bible, pray daily, hear him speak, and engage in church activities as a dedicated church worker. That way, you will get closer to God and hear him speak regularly. Meanwhile, I recommend you get a copy of Charlene Murray's recently-published spiritfilled book titled: God Is Willing It discusses how to differentiate between God's voice and random thought, deal with demoninspired thoughts contending with your joy, and access God's divine help for our peace. It's currently sold for a giveaway price of $3 (It's more like a gift). 3. Pray God knows what you are going through and he patiently awaits you to pour out your mind to him in prayers. He is more than willing to give you peace if only you call on him as your caring father. Express your thoughts, concerns, and gratitude. Prayer is a source of comfort and solace, allowing you to feel closer to God and find peace in His presence. 4. Read Scriptures Apart from helping you build stronger relationships with God, studying the word of God is another way to find tranquility in God's presence. Read at least a Bible chapter daily, reflect and believe what you read, and pray about it, and you will see yourself living happily regardless of the tribulations surrounding you and your family. “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you (Matthew 11:28) ” 5. Meditation Mediation has proven to be effective for being at peace with God because it helps to quiet your inner mind and focus on the divine. Deep meditation in a serene and conducive environment can help you become receptive to God's guidance and presence, leading to a sense of inner peace. 6. Don't Miss Worship Services I have seen many self-acclaimed Christians miss worship services, either online or offline. These sets of people are liable to lose their peace when tribulations and temptations arise. Hence, attending worship services is non-negotiable if you must experience and enjoy God's peace. Participate in religious services and gatherings where you can join others in worship and experience a sense of community and unity with God. Worshiping God with other saints allows you to share your burdens with sincere brethren who can calm your nerves and tension with encouraging words. 7. Practice Gratitude Thank God for what you have achieved instead of focusing on things you failed to accomplish. Cultivate a grateful heart by acknowledging and appreciating his blessings in your life. Count your blessings, name them one after the other, and you will be surprised how far God has brought you. Having a grateful heart and recognizing God's hand in your journey can bring a profound sense of peace and contentment. “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God (Philippians 4:6)” 8. Engage In Charity and Selfless Services What if being alone in my room was one of the reasons I lost my peace in the first instance? If you are in a similar situation right now, I advised you to engage in charity services. Practice acts of kindness and engage in volunteer services that will put smiles on others' faces. Such activities and engagements will bring you closer to God and foster a sense of peace through selflessness. 9. Forgive Yourself and Your Offenders Peace and unforgiveness are two words that can't coexist no matter how you try. Don't hold onto grudges and past hurts that can disrupt your inner peace. Learn to forgive yourself for past mistakes, reconcile with your offenders, and move on with life. Genuine forgiveness guarantees peace of mind with God and man. It helps you be at peace with yourself and past offenders. 10. Spend Time in Nature Connect with God's creation by spending time in nature. Whether it's a walk in the park, hiking in the mountains, or sitting by the sea, being in nature can inspire a sense of awe and peace. I often underestimated the importance of spending quality time in nature until last year when I started traveling from one park and recreation center to another. Listening to birds chirpy sounds, enjoying the cool breeze coming off the beach, and meeting new people will truly enhance your chances of finding inner peace. 11. Trust and Surrender to God's Plan Trusting God's plan for your life and casting your worries on him will definitely take the weight off your shoulder. Recognize that God is in control of your life and only he can turn things around for your good. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6)” 12. Read Spirit-filled Books Reading is one of the effective ways to improve your knowledge and understanding of anything.
